NRA Defensive Pistol Course

This course is designed for adult individuals who are eligible to possess a firearm according to applicable federal, state, or local laws, maintain good repute, and have developed defensive pistol skills as taught in the NRA Defensive Pistol course. Participants must also grasp essential legal concepts regarding the use of firearms in self-defense and adhere to general firearm safety rules, along with safety principles specific to defensive scenarios. Prospective participants can demonstrate their requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by presenting an NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside The Home Course Certificate or by successfully completing the pre-course evaluation.

The NRA Defensive Pistol course is designed to teach essential techniques for developing a defensive mindset. This training focuses on the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for ethical and responsible concealed carry of a pistol, enabling participants to carry with confidence. Through this concealed carry training, students will learn to explain and demonstrate key concepts, such as applying the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm, understanding the principles of concealment, differentiating between cover and concealment, drawing from the holster, recognizing levels of mental awareness, cultivating the proper mindset for personal protection with a pistol, addressing common stoppages, and the use of pocket pistols, among other important skills. Each student will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home handbook, the NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and the NRA Defensive Pistol certificate upon completion. This invaluable course is exclusively conducted by NRA certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.

1. Ensure proper ear protection and eye protection for safety during concealed carry training.

2. Obtain a Pistol Permit.

3. Bring a firearm, either a semi-automatic or a revolver, along with 2 magazines or speed loaders and a holster. 

4. Wear appropriate clothing suited for the weather conditions, including a jacket or shirt that will effectively conceal your holster. Open-toe shoes are not allowed. It's advisable to wear a hat with a brim and a shirt that fits snugly around the neck.

5. Carry a minimum of 200 rounds of factory ammunition specifically for the firearm you are using. Note that reloads are not permitted, in line with NRA Defensive Pistol course guidelines.

6. Please bring the fee in cash or via money order.

1. Bullet resistant vest for your safety during concealed carry training.

2. Gun cleaning kit to ensure your firearm safety is prioritized.

3. Bug spray, sunscreen, and rain wear items as desired for outdoor activities.

4. Pen/pencil for notes during the NRA Defensive Pistol course.

5. You should plan on a working lunch, so bring a sandwich or the like and any snacks/drinks you may require.
